For baseball players around Oklahoma, the preseason work is over, and the regular season is underway. For El Reno’s Hernan Blanco, the start of the season marks his junior season and what promises to be his best season to date.

“I believe our team is looking great for this season. We have the best chance to make it farther than we’ve ever had over the past four years,” said Blanco.

Blanco has played the game of baseball since he was four years old. His passion for the game and his teammates is obvious. Blanco, like many of his teammates, worked this offseason to improve and give the Indians a shot at post season play.

“The thing I love the most about being a student here is that I have great opportunities to reach my goals,” said Blanco. “I believe my most improved area of my game is my mental game.”

Team chemistry is important for any program and Blanco believes his team has great chemistry. Only time will tell, but according to the junior, his teammates motivate and encourage one another to continue to improve and put up wins.

“They are like family, and they keep me motivated to be a better person and baseball player,” said Blanco.

In the classroom, Blanco said he has a favorite subject, and he is making plans for his future after high school.

“My favorite subject in school is math and my favorite teacher is Mrs. Kindsvater,” said Blanco. “After high school I would like to go play college baseball and see how far that takes me.”

In his free time Blanco said he enjoys lifting weights. As for who he thinks is the best player in Major League Baseball?

“The best player in the MLB currently is Shohei Ohtani but all-time I got to say Barry Bonds,” said Blanco.
