9 Questions with El Reno’s Davin Shamblin – Presented by Jim Eischen – Shelter Insurance

VYPE: Davin, what makes being a student-athlete at El Reno HS special for you?
Shamblin: I love being a studentathlete the most at El Reno High School would be all the support
from my coaches and people in the town. It really influences our team and hypes us up.

VYPE: How important are academics to you?
Shamblin: Academics have always been important to me. I’ve always been told to work hard in the classroom, and it will pay off. It means a lot to me.

VYPE: Tell me about your teammates. What do you love about this group of guys?
Shamblin: The thing I love about my teammates the most is how we can joke around outside of baseball, then go into practice or a game and are completely locked back in and being there for each other. They all work so hard to put us in a good spot for the season, and it’s paying off.

VYPE: Are you involved in any clubs or groups at school?
Shamblin: I am very involved in FCA. Seeing kids being led to Christ by other students is huge.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite subject or favorite teacher in school?
Shamblin: I wouldn’t say I have a favorite subject, but a teacher that I could give props to would
be Kristy Ewers. She’s amazing and always willing to help me with no matter what it is. She always makes time for me when I need it.

VYPE: What aspect of your game have you improved for this season?
Shamblin: I’ve worked to improve my speed and my fielding the most. Those are two vital factors in my game. An extra 90 feet can determine the ball game, so I try to stay consistent in training those aspects.

VYPE: What are your plans after you graduate?
Shamblin: When I graduate, I would like to get a business degree and start my own company.

VYPE: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Shamblin: I enjoy hanging with my friends and going to the field to work on my game.

VYPE: Who is the best current
player in MLB?

Shamblin: The best MLB player in my opinion would be Ronald Acuna Jr. What he’s done in the
game is mind blowing. He’s still young too and has plenty more years.
