Yukon’s Drew Reynolds – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by BancFirst Yukon

Drew Reynolds, a junior at Yukon High School, became interested in basketball from the young age of four after seeing his father’s love for the sport. His father has been an important influence in many aspects of his life.

“I look up to my dad as a role model because he has always been there for me and gave me the keys and I just had to have the want and desire,” said Reynolds. “I try to follow in his footsteps because he’s the best dad I could ask for and shows the most support after any performance that I have.”

Reynolds has learned that character, in his words, “always shows your true colors and shows who you are as a person – doesn’t matter if it’s within the game of basketball or off of the court.”

He is a hardworking athlete, motivated by knowing that he has to earn success in his sport.

“Something that motivates me to be the best is that there’s always someone else out there working just as hard to get to where you want to be but isn’t as fortunate as I am so I never take anything for granted,” he said.

Reynolds can attest that the best aspect about playing sports in high school is being able to represent where you’re from and the excitement that comes with playing in front of big crowds and student sections – especially if the opponent is Canadian County rival Mustang. But nothing, Reynolds says, tops hitting the game-winning points and uniting the whole school in victory. Maybe he can hit a few more buzzer-beaters before he ends his high school career.

After high school, Reynolds plans to play basketball at the next level and continue getting better day by day.
