Piedmont’s Destiny Duffy – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by F&M Bank

Piedmont High School junior Destiny Duffy is a shooting guard on the varsity basketball team, but she can play any position head coach Joe Crawford needs.

“My passion for basketball began early on while attending my older brother’s games. I started school at Lomega High School, which is known for basketball. I began playing basketball in pre-school,” said Duffy.

Coming into the season, Duffy said she worked hard on areas she wanted to improve and stayed focused on making the most of her junior year.

“My strengths are that I am a team player with a strong shooting ability. I have really improved in my communication skills with my teammates both on and off the court,” said Duffy.

When talking about the team, Duffy explains who keeps everyone laughing and who has impressed her this season.

“Both Kai and Najya have a great sense of humor, but all my teammates have a sense of humor. When it comes to the game everyone has a serious side,” Duffy said. “Rylie Burnett is a senior this year and is such a great player and teammate. We first played together on the same AAU Team for Team Oklahoma, when we were in grade school. She has been a great friend and I will miss playing with her next year.”

Duffy said PHS is a great place to be a student-athlete.

“Being an athlete at PHS is great. We have coaches, trainers and teachers that are invested in us. Coach Joe Crawford has had a big impact on my basketball career, as well as our assistant coaches,” said Duffy.

The junior believes her future includes playing at the next level while pursuing a degree.

“The goal is to be accepted into college and continue playing basketball while furthering my education,” said Duffy.
