Yukon’s Payton Milhoan
For Payton Milhoan, volleyball has been a huge part of her life for several years. This year a senior, she’s been with Yukon volleyball for five years and has been a varsity starter for four of those years.
“Being a student-athlete at Yukon is special for me because of the community,” she said. “I love all of the friendships I’ve formed throughout my years of being an athlete here. It has completely shaped me into the person I am today.”
When it comes to her favorite place to play, Regionals is her favorite end of the season competition.
“I love Regionals because it’s such a competitive atmosphere,” she said. “Every player from Oklahoma is in one place. You get to see so many people you know and compete against them. It’s been my favorite tournament since I started the club.”
Faith plays a huge role in her life and love of the game.
“Jesus has been a huge influence in not only my life but also the player that I am,” she said. “His love for me has made me realize the importance of caring and loving others. God has also helped me with my mindset and mental fortitude tremendously.”
In the classroom, Mrs. Grba, her third-grade teacher, has made a major impact on her over the years.
“She taught me the importance of kindness at an early age, and I’m forever grateful,” she said.
Payton plays middle blocker but if she could choose another position she’d love to try setter.
“The way they run the court is amazing and inspiring to me,” she said. She’s also switched from a standing serve to a jump serve recently and already feels more power, aggression, and control.
She admires her teammates’ perseverance like Ava Glover, who recently moved into the libero role. She was moved from hitter and has gone for as many balls as she could this season so far. She looks forward to playing Mustang each year.
“It’s a well-matched competitive game” she says.
What she loves most about the sport is her teammates.
“Each person brings something unique we couldn’t do without,” she said. “I love seeing everyone’s talents come together to be successful.”
