Ava Watkins

Piedmont High School

Piedmont High School’s Ava Watkins took a short break between practice and homework to answer this edition of 9 Questions with VYPE editor Brad Heath.

VYPE: Thanks for doing this Ava. How long have you played basketball and what grade are you in this season?

Watkins: I am currently a sophomore, and I have played basketball since 2nd grade.

VYPE: The team continues to work hard and get better. What are you seeing from your teammates?

Watkins: The team is coming together good. We are young, but we’re learning fast. We’re building chemistry as the season moves along.

VYPE: What is the goal for this season?

Watkins: My goal for this season is to grow my game by scoring on more levels, and to be a leader on and off the court.

VYPE: Is there an area of your game you feel you’ve improved in this year?

Watkins: I think the part of my game that’s most improved is my confidence while dribbling/driving to go score.

VYPE: Is there something you like about being a student-athlete at Piedmont HS?

Watkins: I love getting to be a student-athlete most because it has allowed me to make many friends I wouldn’t have met, and I get the chance to represent our school on and off the court.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite subject or teacher in school?

Watkins: My favorite subject in school is math. My favorite teacher is Coach Larue.

VYPE: Are you involved in any other activities?

Watkins: I am a part of Student Council at our school, where we get to plan events, and help get our student body involved.

VYPE: What makes this group special?

Watkins: I love that our team is a family, we fight together on the court, and are always there for each other off the court.

VYPE: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Watkins: I enjoy reading and hanging out with friends in my free time.
