El Reno Softball

First year head coach Jason Little takes over a program that went 12-17 last season and returns seven starters to the field. With coach Little taking the job, he brings a three-year starter from Minco in Jacy Little.

“We have a lot of talented younger players that will add some depth to the roster. Pitching will be the key to our success and there is some depth in the circle with 5-6 pitchers. The players are working hard to learn a new system and I have been pleased with our progress so far,” said coach Little.

Ana Ashford is a three-year starter and three-time All-District selectee who brings a strong arm and a powerful bat to the plate. Look for Ashford to be part of the infield rotation as she looks to help lead the team this season.

“Ana is a leader on and off the field and will be one of the top players in our district,” said Little.

One of the younger players coach Little mentioned is Maddie Moss. Moss is one of the top, if not the best outfielder on the team and could start at center field. She has a lively bat and excellent speed. As coach Little said, “Moss can cover a lot of ground.” Add her accurate arm and you have a player who is a difference maker in the outfield.

The aforementioned Jacy Little was a three-year starter for Minco and a three-time All-District player. Little was named Offensive Player of the Year and led the state in steals and was top 10 in every offensive category.

“Jacy has great speed and range in the field and has a three-year combined fielding percentage of .964,” said coach Little.

She will add more depth to the middle infield and give opponents defense problems from the plate.

Also look for Sarah Hernandez at catcher. Hernandez is taking control of the infield and becoming a true field General for coach Little. With an above average arm, stealing is not always a guarantee. Her work ethic and willingness to learn makes her a dangerous player.

The heart and soul of the team is Jayda Cook. Cook will stay late, help younger players and do whatever is necessary to help the team.
