When a high school student has to move to a different school, it can be a tough transition. Moving away from the people and school you know really well and going to a place where you are not familiar with anyone is not easy. But for Jacy Little, she is taking it in stride and looking to make an impact at her new school.
“Honestly, the highlight of my career so far would be transferring to El Reno High School for my senior year,” she said. “I want to change the way El Reno is seen, so I always want to play my very best for them to show we are better than in the past. And I want everyone to know that we are athletes and for them to be proud of us.”
In her final year of high school, Little plays shortstop for the El Reno softball team. She also volunteers for anything that she can help with at the school or outside of the school.
There is a lot that goes into being ready to compete when game day rolls around, but Jacy says that you have to want to work hard in order to be your best.
“To be successful in my sports, it has taken a lot of hard work and motivation, late nights and early mornings even when I didn’t want to get up,” she said. “I still have to constantly work because I have had two hip surgeries and I am fighting to play the sport that I love.”
El Reno’s softball coach, Jason Little, who is also her dad, says that Jacy is an outstanding softball player that will play a big role in the team’s season.
“She was a three-year starter at shortstop for Minco,” he said. “She was also three-time All District, one-time offensive Player of the Year. She led the state in steals and was top ten in seven offensive categories. She will add depth to the middle infield and will give defenses problems at the plate.”
Jacy enjoys her new teammates and likes how they all have the drive to keep working. She says that she has a couple that stand out for her.
“I enjoy working against Ana Ashford because she keeps me working harder and makes me continue pushing because she is a great athlete,” she said. “Sarah Hernandez in my opinion is the least appreciated because she has grown so much as an athlete from where she started.”
There are a number of people that have had an impact on Jacy’s life. But as a softball player, there is one that has had a big influence.
“Jayda Coleman is a great role model to look up to because she is a sweet person outside of softball but a beast on the field.”
