Q&A with El Reno’s Madison Patswald– Presented by Jim Eischen, Shelter Insurance

VYPE: Tell us a little bit about who you are and what sports you play?
MP: My name is Madison Patswald and I am a senior at El Reno High School. I am a part of the volleyball, golf, trapshooting, and archery teams.

VYPE: What have your sports taught you that you use in your daily life?
MP: That the key to success is preparation. When you put in the time and effort during practice, and on the weekends, you have the confidence you need when the tournaments come around.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?
MP: The friendships we’ve built mean a lot because I know when I’m having an off day they will always be there to support me.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
MP: My greatest inspiration comes from my family. Through all my years of playing sports, when other kids might have been lucky to have one parent cheering them on, I always knew I would have a posse cheering me on. Their support always meant the world to me.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
MP: In every sport I’ve ever played, my twin sister has played it with me. She’s been there for me as my practice partner and, most importantly, she’s been the person I could talk to about frustrations and difficult times.

VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to and why?
MP: I’ve have always looked up to Tim Tebow. He was a great athlete and an even better role model. He always held onto his beliefs even in the midst of scrutiny.

VYPE: Are you involved in any other activities besides athletics?
MP: I am very active in the Pride of El Reno Marching Band and EHS Concert Band as a flute and piccolo player and flute section leader. I am also a part of FBCER Youth Leadership and FCA. I am a member of the Canadian County 4-H Shotgun Club and an AIM Member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association.

VYPE: Here’s your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
MP: I would like to thank Coach Wilkins for being an amazing golf coach. He has taught me so much in the two years he’s been here and has given up countless hours of his time to work with us.

VYPE: What is the best advice anyone has given you?
MP: The best advice anyone has given me is when my mom told me, “Don’t give up when things get hard. You’re not a quitter.” Now that I’ve lived through some struggles, I can appreciate how it feels when you’ve persevered through that struggle. (Philippians 4:13)
