YUKON MILLERS

Coach: BRENT BARNES

1-9

QUICK HITS:
Wide receiver Lucas Jones caught 11 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns in the Millers 42-28 loss to Edmond Memorial. The Millers more than doubled their points per game average in 2023 from 2022. Yukon averaged 28 points per game and scored at least 21 points in 9 of its 10 games. Yukon defeated Stillwater for the first time since 2010, 37-34. It was the Millers 3rd win against the Pioneers in ten all-time meetings, dating back to 1974.

OFFENSE

The Yukon Millers are gearing up for a turnaround season under the leadership of head coach Brent Barnes. “We are a multiple spread offense, like to play fast and spread the ball around to everybody. We want to establish the run game to setup the play action passing game,” Barnes said. Returning to spearhead the offense is senior quarterback Carter Creatch (6-1, 185, Sr.), who will have a wealth of targets, including standout wide receivers Lucas Jones (6-2, 185, Sr.) and Kenison Rogers (6-1, 180, Sr.). Both Jones and Rogers had over 80 catches and 1,000 yards last year, proving their reliability and playmaking ability. The offensive line is anchored by junior Cayden Carter (6-4, 315, Jr.) and Knox Schulte (6-2, 310, Jr.), providing the protection needed for Yukon’s multiple spread offense. “We will run 11 personnel and like to play with that as much as we can,” Barnes added.

DEFENSE

The Millers’ defense will operate out of a 3-4 base, with an emphasis on versatility and aggression. “We want to mix things up with stunts, multiple coverages and have all eleven flying around to the football,” Barnes explained. Leading the defense is junior linebacker Destry Lujan (6-0, 230, Jr.), who brings a blend of physicality and athleticism. Alongside Lujan, the linebacker corps includes senior Keller Troxell (6-1, 195, Sr.), ensuring experience and leadership in the middle. The defensive line features sophomore standout Rocco Johnson (6-1, 230, So.) and Daniel Yebit (6-1, 165, So.), both who are forces off the edge. The secondary is bolstered by senior Logan McKenzie (5-11, 170) and Tayber Gammon (6-1, 185), both providing solid coverage and playmaking ability. Yukon returns six starters on defense, and they’re confident in their ability to disrupt opponents and create turnovers this season.
