It’s been a banner season for the Mustang cheer team under head coach Caitlin Walker.
From competing at state to leading the cheers on Friday night, the team has put in the hard work to be successful at both. Coach Walker said the team has great chemistry and unity.
“I love how selfless this team is. When they are competing, or doing any sort of performance, everything they do is for the good of the team. They want the people next to them to be successful, so they give all they have,” coach Walker said.
With ten seniors on the roster, coach Walker expects those seniors to be leaders.
“We do not have captains. I have 10 seniors, so they are all expected to act as captains in some way,” coach Walker said.
This season has had its share of surprises. Overcoming adversity is a trait every championship team has, and Mustang is no different.
“Honestly, the biggest surprise this season was getting fourth at competitive regionals. We had worked so hard but made mistakes under pressure,” said Walker. “My favorite moment this season has been winning our first state championship. We learned so much in a week’s time, and our hard work paid off.”
This spring Mustang plans to compete in Stunt, which is another opportunity for this team to show their talents on the big stage. The future of the program is exciting for coach Walker and the members of the team.
“The future of this program is bright. We have some incredibly talented athletes and more coming up in our middle schools and youth program,” coach Walker said.
