9Qs with Bethany’s Evenson Malaska

VYPE: What have your sports taught you that you use in your daily life?

Evenson: The sports I play (football, soccer, and track) have taught me how to be disciplined. They have taught me how to help others and build my own confidence. They have also strengthened my work ethic and taught me how to be part of a team.

VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sports?

Evenson: I enjoy the competition and I have goals that I have set for myself. I want to play college football and I think when you have passion, you set goals and try to hit those goals.

VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing sports?

Evenson: Being from Haiti, I got to watch my two older brothers play soccer a lot. When I came to America, my parents started me in soccer at a young age. Then watching my two older brothers play different sports I watched and played with them. I have an older brother that plays college soccer in Kansas currently and an older brother that plays football for University of Utah. So, seeing their success and confidence has given me something to work towards.

VYPE: What professional athlete do you look up to and why?

Evenson: I look up to LeBron James. He pushes his teammates to be the best they can be.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Evenson: Cale Wetwiska, our senior QB and Safety this year. He always kept his head when things didn’t go our way and he helped me stay positive when things got difficult.

Evenson: Mr. Toller. He not only was a good teacher but he allowed us to play interactive games as a class to help us learn.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory of playing high school sports?
