Mustang High School junior Brooke Base is making an impact on the volleyball court while building lasting relationships with her teammates and community.
Base credits much of her development to those around her, particularly mentor Victoria Borsatto. “She’s made me a better volleyball player and a better person,” Base said. “She’s taught me lots of skills and has helped me increase my confidence countless times.”
On the court, Base emphasizes teamwork. She points to setter Zoe Christy as a key contributor to the team’s success. “We have a really good bond off the court, and I think you can tell when she sets me how well we connect,” she said.
That chemistry extends across the roster. Base said the team’s closeness is what she values most. “I mostly enjoy the friendships and how close we are all together,” she said. “We always keep each other laughing.”
Christy also stands out as both a vocal leader and a source of energy. “She always has something positive to say and can make anyone laugh no matter what,” Base said.
Base said Brecken Smiley is a teammate known for her relentless defensive effort, while Reagan Glenn has left a lasting impression through her positive mindset. “She’s taught me to be positive and just have fun no matter what,” Base said.
Off the court, Base enjoys playing beach volleyball with friends and spending time at Mustang Social. She is also active in the school’s REACH leadership program. In the classroom, Base favors math and credits former teacher Mr. Williams as a standout influence.
Through athletics, Base said she has learned valuable life skills. “Being a part of athletics has taught me to be able to work with lots of different people,” she said.
