Mustang’s Emerson Pegram Athlete Spotlight By Excel Therapy

By Scott Metz

Mustang High School junior Emerson Pegram is a dedicated softball player. She plays a variety of positions, pitcher for slowpitch and first base for fastpitch, but is willing to play wherever her coach puts her.

To have such dedication, Emerson defines what motivates her. Emerson stated, “The thing that motivates me the most is knowing that there’s people that look up to me and knowing that they trust me to always give everything I have.”

A favorite memory for Emerson in softball occurred the first year she played for Mustang High School. Emerson recalled, “The highlight of my career was winning slowpitch state my freshman year. We were never picked to win and we came out on top.”

Emerson is proud to represent Mustang.

“It means everything to me to represent my community,” she said. “To show everyone that this program is based on being good people, and preparing for things much greater than this sport is really important to me.”

In terms of who Emerson considers her role models, she looks towards family.

“My parents are my biggest role models. They are both really resilient people that have helped shape me into the person and player I am today.”

When it comes to a teacher that has had the biggest influence on her life, Emerson explained, “Ms. Caitlin Walker. She really pushed everyone to be true to themselves even when challenged by the standards of others and that’s stuck with me for a long time.”

Asked what has made Emerson successful, she stated, “It has taken resiliency to be able to overcome adversity my first two years of high school. Without mental toughness, I wouldn’t be as successful as I am.”

Besides investing a great amount of time into softball, she is a member of The National Honor Society. After graduating from Mustang High School Emerson plans on pursuing higher education.

“I plan on going to college to receive my nursing degree. I want to further my education and ultimately become a certified registered nurse anesthetist.”
