Success is something that everyone strives for, but not everyone is able to achieve it. No matter what you are working towards, it takes time and effort among other things. Jacen Jackson is a wrestler at Mustang High School and he knows that while the work can be tough, he also knows that it pays off.
“It takes self-discipline and accountability,” he said. “In wrestling, you and only you are responsible for your level of success. I keep myself on track by knowing that I can better myself by doing hard work and continually improving. My favorite moment of my career was helping my team win our Dual State Championship.”
Jackson is a senior at Mustang. Along with wrestling, he is also a member of the Bronco Athletic Council. The Broncos athletic teams play many other teams throughout their seasons, but Jacen says that there is one team that he enjoys going up against the most.
“There is a huge rivalry between Yukon and Mustang,” he said. “It is always fun competing against them.”
During his career, there have been a number of people that have been influential in his life and helped him get where he is today.
“All of my wrestling coaches, from little league up, have had a huge impact on me,” he said. “Also, my brother Jaston. We have been wrestling each other since we were four and five years old. We have gone back and forth on being better than each other and have always pushed one another to be the best we can be. I can always rely on him to help me analyze my matches and give me advice on strategy.”
Being able to represent the Mustang Broncos when he steps out on the wrestling mat, he feels that he is doing more than just getting ready to compete. He is also working to be a good representative of his school and community.
“I believe I am setting an example for our student body,” he said. “I strive to maintain my composure even when things get heated during competition. I try to set an example of good sportsmanship for my team.”
