Mustang’s Stone Perkins-Athlete Spotlight-Presented by Lori Garrison Shelter Insurance

Mustang High School senior center Stone Perkins understands that the clock is ticking on his time under the Friday night lights, and he is determined to make every snap count for the Broncos. “I learned that playing football is an incredible opportunity, and it will end one day so I will make the most of in this next season,” Perkins said.

Perkins anchors the Mustang offensive line and takes pride in the way the Broncos operate as one unit. “I love how close knit our team is and how well we work together,” he said. That bond is strengthened daily as the team grinds through the summer, preparing for another challenging season at the Class 6A level. “Summer workouts have been great! My teammates have been working relentlessly to accomplish their goals,” Perkins said.

Playing center this year, Perkins embraces both the physical and leadership demands of the position. “I am playing center this year I enjoy the brotherhood and the culture that we have on our team,” he said. He credits former Mustang player Blake Davis with showing him what it means to uphold the standard for the Broncos. “Blake Davis left an impression on me for living up to our standard and never letting his teammates fall below it,” Perkins said.

Perkins’ work ethic is fueled by the people closest to him. “My family and friends inspire me to be the best version of myself every day,” he said. A multi-sport athlete, Perkins wrestles in the offseason, using the mat to sharpen the strength and toughness he brings to the trenches on game nights. “I wrestle in the offseason,” he said.

As he heads into his senior year, Perkins is focused on helping Mustang succeed now while also chasing the opportunity to play at the next level. “I am going into my senior year. I would like to play college football after graduation,” he said. He knows his calling card is power at the point of attack but continues to refine the finer points of line play. “A strength of mine is my strength I have always been capable of moving defenders. I am working on my ability to work up to linebackers and be patient,” Perkins said.
