Every Friday night, you can find cheer teams across the state on the sideline of their school’s football game cheering on their team to victory. Allison Moore and Keela Morgan are sponsors for the Piedmont cheer squad. They both agree that their team is not afraid to do what needs to be done to be their best.
“These girls work really hard and have such a heart for cheering,” Moore said. “They love what they do and it shows. We are so proud of them and all they accomplish.”
Morgan agreed and added that the team is more like a family and are always there for each other.
“Our team’s biggest strength is their relationship with each other,” Morgan said. “These girls have an inseparable bond and together they can accomplish anything. They work hard day in and day out and stay positive, even when our cheer room’s air conditioner is broken. They are also really strong community leaders as well and great tumblers.”
Senior Morgan Winfield enjoys cheering on the Wildcats and she also likes the interaction with the
fans in the stands.
“I love making everyone in the community feel involved,” she said. “I like when we cheer and everyone repeats it. Cheering for all the various sports at Piedmont and cheering on the first day of school really makes us feel like we’re involved in the community.”
Moore and Morgan know that while the team enjoys cheering together, bonding and spending time together is also something that will help the team grow and become a stronger team.
Our team loves to do skits at camp,” Moore said. “We come up with a theme and the girls in small groups create skits and perform them for each other. After they perform they vote for a winner. It is so fun to watch. They love making the skits and performing them. They also do a lot of things outside of school together like painting banners for our football team to run through.”
Another senior on the squad, Laci Hodgen loves the relationships she has built with her teammates
and how they are there for one another.
“I like how close of a bond we all have and that’s really important and helpful when we have competitions because we want to do our very best for each other.”
