Piedmont’s Grayson May – Presented by F&M Bank Piedmont

Grayson May’s football story began like many young athletes — throwing the football around the house as a kid. His love for the game blossomed from those moments, leading him to become the starting quarterback for Piedmont High School.

Grayson credits his father as his greatest influence, both on and off the field. “My dad is definitely my best influence in my life and greatest role model that I could have,” he said. That influence has shaped his leadership, both in life and football, as he prepares to lead Piedmont in their first year in Class 6A. His goal? “To be successful in our first year in 6A, make the playoffs and go as far as we can.”

As the starting quarterback, Grayson takes his role seriously. “I prepare myself by going through mental reps and watching film on how I can be the best for our team,” he explained. The team’s chemistry is something Grayson highlights with pride: “Our team chemistry is great this season. I have been playing with a lot of our guys since sixth grade and it’s fun to be around all of them.”

His journey hasn’t been without challenges. Grayson recalls the difficulty of not starting during his seventh and eighth-grade years. “I knew I wanted to start as the varsity QB and I did what I needed to do to get here,” he said.

Looking ahead, Grayson envisions football as part of his future, either as a player or a coach. “I definitely see myself playing football. If not, I still want to be part of a team and be a QB coach for a college or high school football team.”

Grayson’s gratitude extends to his parents and coaches: “I would like to thank my mom and dad for always believing in me and helping me, all the money they spent on lessons, food and gear. I’d also like to thank coaches Hatfield, Pryce, Oller and Bracci for always picking my head up when things are hard and just believing in me and what I can do on and off the field.”
