Yukon’s Clayton Berg – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Roger Karns – Shelter Insurance

Clayton Berg enjoys getting in the pool and going for a swim. But for him, swimming is more than just for fun. It is a competition. He is a member of the Yukon High School swim team and he has his eye on setting some new records this season.

“I’m working towards breaking many school records this year,” he said. “I plan on trying to get the 100 backstroke record along with the 50 and 500 freestyle records. We just recently broke the men’s 400 freestyle relay record, which had stood for five years and it was very exciting as our relays have been very close every year at the high school.”

Berg is a senior at Yukon. Along with swimming for the Millers, he also swims for the Bison Aquatic Club in Edmond.

Being a successful swimmer is not something that just happened to Clayton. Instead, it has taken many hours of work and dedication.

“Many late nights practicing and multiple practices a day along with different coaches and constantly reworking how I am doing things.”

Throughout his life, Berg has had a few people that have had an impact on his life and helped him become the person and athlete that he is today.

“My older brother is my biggest role model because helped introduce me to working out and I like his outlook on life,” he said. “My parents and friends also because they always push me to do better. Ethan Lee is a teammate and I like working against him because he’s around my speed in freestyle and always funny during practice.”

More than just swimming, Clayton says that he enjoys competitive swimming for a number of reasons.

“One of the things I like about swimming is beating someone with a faster seed time,” he said. “Mainly because you normally think you’re going to lose. Another thing I enjoy is being able to represent my school. It means a lot because Yukon isn’t at the top of any sports so being able to go to meets and places well and win events is really nice.”
