Yukon’s MaKaylee Cowan – Presented By Roger Karns Shelter Insurance

There are moments throughout an athlete’s career that are engraved in their memory. While some of those moments may be bigger than others, the impact they make can be immeasurable. MaKaylee Cowan is a senior at Yukon High School and though she has made some great memories, she has one that stands out as her favorite.
“The highlight moment of my career so far would be my junior year regional tournament,” Cowan said. “The morning of the tournament I had a very bad panic attack because I was so nervous as to how I would play. I ended up shooting 72, one under par, and won. From this experience, I learned how to calm myself down and trust myself in the game.”
Family is an important part of MaKaylee’s life and she would not have it any other way.
“I have a huge family and every day I work to make them proud,” she stated. “I want my nieces and nephews to look up to me and know they can do whatever they can if they work for it. In our family, we have always been super competitive and we always gave one hundred percent no matter what we were doing or how tired we are. Some of my biggest influences are my older brothers, sisters-in-law, and my parents. They have all supported me through the toughest times in our lives. I would not be here today without them by my side. My nieces and nephews also help to hold me accountable for my actions and decisions.”
Throughout her career, MaKaylee has worked hard to be her best whenever she steps out on the course.
Success in golf can come in waves,” she said. “Some days you can be hitting the ball very well but the next you cannot hit it straight. I have had to learn how to put my emotions aside and just do the best I can with how I’m hitting the ball that day. Having a short memory is crucial in this sport to not let the smallest things affect how the rest of the day goes.”
