Athlete Spotlight with El Reno’s Janiya Loreto – Presented by Jim Eischen-Shelter Insurance

Janiya Loreto is a senior at El Reno High School and a member of the varsity soccer team. When Loreto was in the seventh grade, she got her first taste of soccer and she loved it. Being part of the team has been a highlight of her high school career.

“What I really love about my team is how well we can collaborate and work together. Even

when someone gets subbed in, we keep the game flowing smoothly. We’ve learned to roll with the punches, knowing that sometimes the calls don’t go our way or we don’t get the goals we feel we deserve,” said Loreto.

Soccer is a passion, but Loreto works hard in the classroom as well. She is a member of National Honor Society, while playing soccer and being a three-year member of the varsity cheer team.

“I believe that El Reno is a great place for a student athlete, because of the sense community. Not only is our school community extremely supportive but our town also shows up. The El Reno girls’ basketball team just won back-to-back state championships, and our community was extremely supportive and cheered them on the whole way through,” said Loreto.

Defense is what Loreto is known for on the pitch.

“I think one of my greatest strengths is being aggressive when I’m on the ball. It really helps me stand out as a defender. Of course, there’s always room to grow, and I feel like I’ve made great improvements in my touch and ball handling lately,” said Loreto.

Once her high school days come to an end, Loreto plans to attend college on a scholarship.

“It’s always been my dream to become a lawyer, and I’m determined to earn my PhD to specialize as a criminal defense attorney,” said Loreto.
