Yukon boys wrestling enters the new season with experience and high expectations, returning five state qualifiers to a lineup built to compete in Class 6A. Head coach Joe Schneider will lean on a veteran senior core that has already proven it can perform on the state’s biggest stage.
Leading the way is senior Destry Lujan, a two-time state qualifier who broke through last season with a runner-up finish at 215 pounds. Fellow senior JJ Schultheis brings three years of state experience and is coming off a 3rd-place finish at 138 pounds, giving Yukon two proven podium threats in the upper and middle weights. Seniors Deshawn Tate (165), Jaxon Kennedy (126), and junior Da’Mari Alexander (113) also return after qualifying for last year’s state tournament, giving the Millers balance across the lineup and a foundation of wrestlers who understand what it takes to get through regionals and onto the state floor.
Yukon once again faces a demanding schedule that should have the team battle-tested by February. The Millers will host home duals against Piedmont on December 4, Mustang on December 16, Deer Creek on January 13, Choctaw on January 27, and Tuttle on February 3, a slate loaded with perennial contenders. The program will also celebrate a major milestone as host of the Jay Hancock Memorial for the 50th consecutive year on January 23–24, welcoming a field of nearly 32 teams from across Oklahoma, including powers like Edmond North, Stillwater, Choctaw, Westmoore, Moore, Owasso, and Sapulpa.
