OUTLOOK
Piedmont will be attempting a three-peat of state championships under head coach Keith Coleman in 2023. The Wildcats, who went 40-3 last year and captured their second consecutive state title and their third in the last four years, are in good position again with seven returning starters.
Payten Schibbelhute will be in her fourth year as starter in the pitcher’s circle and is a VYPE Top 100 candidate. Also returning are Taybor Moss, considered one of the top players in the state, and four-year starter Tylar Short, who will patrol the outfield in center field and bat in the leadoff spot. Addison Underwood is a dynamic pitcher with strikeout ability, and Hannah Nieuwenhuis is a three-year starter who can play multiple positions at first base, second base and will help out from the pitcher’s circle. Also back is four-year starter Peyton Gray in the outfield, and Kinley Sexton.
